3 Sekunden Bach

"3 Sekunden Bach" wurde am 6. September 2000 im Fernsehsender ARTE, in der Reihe "FlashBach" gesendet.
Die "Fuge in D" aus dem "Wohltemperierte Klavier II" von Joh. Seb. Bach ist das Ausgangsmaterial für die Entwicklung und Ausarbeitung eines "Clusterbrettes" von Dodo Schielein. Im "Clusterbrett" findet sich die Fuge von Bach in seiner komprimierten Form wieder:
Der Cluster - nämlich das, was man am Klavier in dem Moment hört, wenn Schielein das Brett auf die Tastatur drückt - ist aus allen Tonhöhen zusammengesetzt, die die ursprüngliche Fuge beinhaltet. Den hörbaren Tonblock (Cluster), bezeichnet Schielein als musikalische Skulptur. Sie ist die Fuge in ihrer Essenz. Das, was dieses Klangereignis ausmacht liegt in der Persönlichkeit der Künstlerin, und der charakteristischen Spielart, die das jeweilige Musikstück vorgibt. Seine Faszination, erschließt sich letztendlich aber erst, wenn wir als Zuschauer an dem "Konzert" von Schielein, das durchschnittlich 30- 60 Sekunden dauert, teilhaben.
Der Kurzfilm "3 Sekunden Bach" ist eine Parallelmontage vom Bau und spielen dieses "Clusterbrettes" und die Dokumentation eines Klaviertransportes in die im 4. Stock liegenden Wohnung Dodo Schieleins.

The "Fugue in D" from the "Well-tempered Clavier II" by Johann Sebastian Bach is the point of departure for the development and manufacturing of Dodo Schielein's "Clusterboard". All of Bach's Fugue is represented in a compressed format in the "Clusterboard".
The cluster - or what we hear from the piano at the very moment Schielein is pressing the "Clusterboard" on the keyboard - consists of all the pitches in the Fugue the original is made up of. The audible result is what Schielein calls a musical sculpture. This is the Fugue in its essence. What makes this musical event unique, however, is the artist's personality and her characteristic way of playing the music, which in turn is determined by each piece itself. The real fascination of this musical event cannot be felt, however, until we take part in Schielein's live performance in a concert that lasts between thirty and sixty seconds.
The short film "Three Seconds Bach" documents the development of the idea, i.e. compressing Bach's Fugue making use of a "Clusterboard", its manufacturing, the transport of a piano via a narrow staircase onto the fourth floor into Schielein's apartment and eventually of her playing Bach's Fugue with the "Clusterboard".
